What other GIS services do we provide?
If our other services don’t fit the project you have in mind, fear not! We have a wide range of skills that can apply to any project with a spatial element.
Our Expertise
Sometimes you just need a GIS/Data Science professional “on-demand”. Typically, set up through master service agreements, we integrate LGEo staff into your team as if they always worked there.

Licker Geospatial is a “soup-to-nuts” organization that can provide GIS and data science service up and down the value chain. There is no task too large or too small for us to take on as long as it pertains to the acquisition, use, analysis or management of information that has a space or time dimension. We are able to jump into a multitude of contexts and start cranking out high quality outputs in short time frames. Regardless of the level of project complexity, we provide consistent and cost-effective service, especially to our repeat clients and collaborators. Case Studies
THE CHALLENGE
The Housing Assessment Resource Tools (HART) project, with funding from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), is researching data-based solutions to Canada’s housing crisis. Their goal is to create a suite of tool-based solutions that will allow for researchers and municipalities to better understand their housing needs and opportunities. They approached our team for assistance in replicably applying the HART methodology on core housing need assessment and housing projections to large census datasets, and developing an interactive tool that would allow users to explore the data.
Case Study 1
Housing Assessment Resource Tools
THE SOLUTION
Our team developed python based tools that could process census data and apply HART methodology to calculate core housing need, broken down by income categories, family size and priority populations. Additionally, python code was developed to calculate 10 year housing need projections. This code was made publicly available and was designed such that it would be adaptable to future census years, regardless of name changes for both communities and census indicators.
The next step was creating a low cost, publicly available tool that would allow users to visualize, compare and download the data created. This tool would allow users to visualize core housing needs and affordable shelter costs by income category, household size, and priority populations for their community. To meet this need, we created the HART dashboard using Plotly, which provides the following features:
-
An interactive map picker for selecting regions
-
Plots and tables for Core Housing Need, Household Projections and Indigenous Households' Core Housing Need that interactively update with the map picker or a text-based selection function
-
Comparison Function between two municipalities, or to compare a municipality with it’s parent region or province
-
Download functions for all plots and tables
-
The resulting data visualization tool is being used by governments, housing advocacy groups and researchers to better understand and advocate for the needs of their respective communities.

Mapping to Support the East Side Arts Society
THE CHALLENGE
Artists play a key role in building community, fostering creativity and leading urban regeneration. Arts and culture are recognized as key economic sectors for growth, attracting investment and highly skilled workers in post-industrial global cities, including Vancouver.
While museums, galleries and cultural centres receive funding to encourage cultural consumption and celebration of artistic talent and creativity, the working conditions of artists and their production spaces have not received adequate public or government attention.
THE SOLUTION
To fill this gap, we created a detailed assessment of the loss of visual artist production spaces in the East Side Arts District in Vancouver. A studio inventory was created and profiled to indicate levels of eviction threat.
Artist displacement potential was mapped relative to likelihood of development of properties in the area. The project found that almost half a million square footage of studio spaces have been lost as a result of residential and commercial conversions and redevelopment of the past decade.
The analysis results were used to inform potential strategies to mitigate the displacement and loss of Vancouver’s artists. The project analysis and strategies were compiled into a public-facing report.
The report was the 2021 recipient of the Canadian Institute of Planners Prize for Planning Excellence.

Ongoing Support for Krech Ojard Associates
THE CHALLENGE
Krech Ojard & Associates (KOA) is an engineering consulting firm based in Minnesota, USA providing engineering and consulting services with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, marine, and railroad design capabilities.
In 2018, KOA was in search of a GIS consultant capable of providing ad-hoc, responsive GIS services to support their fast-paced project work and provide GIS solutions for their clients, when needed.
THE SOLUTION
We provide outsourced GIS services for KOA to support their daily operations. Our services range from data sourcing and acquisition to specialty support on projects. Examples of specialty support include cartography and StoryMapping for stakeholder engagement, custom field applications using Survey123 and external client-facing interactive web applications, digitization of as-builts and coordinate system management. We also administer their ArcGIS Portal Enterprise environment.
